C# Mystic — Native American Style 7-Hole Bass Flute in C# (Aeolian, 432 Hz)
Explore an expanded tonal language with our C# Mystic — a 7-hole Native American style single-chamber bass flute in the key of C#, built in the Aeolian (natural minor) scale and tuned to 432 Hz.
This instrument combines a deep, grounded bass voice with a broader melodic range than our pentatonic flutes. The 7-hole Aeolian scale introduces additional tones that allow for more continuous melodic movement, subtle tension and resolution, and a wider emotional spectrum.
Despite this expanded range, the flute remains accessible and responsive. It supports both simple, breath-led playing and more deliberate melodic exploration, while remaining intuitive and accessible in its response.
Tonal Character & Playing Experience
The C# Mystic responds steadily and with clarity. Its voice is calm, centred, and balanced — not heavy, but grounded.
The extended scale allows phrases to unfold more naturally, creating space for contrast and development within the music. Compared to the openness of a pentatonic flute, the Aeolian scale introduces a more narrative quality — capable of sounding introspective, spacious, and quietly cinematic.
This flute invites unhurried playing. It responds patiently to the breath, allowing melodies to develop naturally rather than being pushed.
Origin of the C# Mystic
This model traces back to an earlier idea.
In 2019, while working on an album, we came across a handpan tuning known as C# Mystic. The tonal character — open, slightly unfamiliar, yet internally coherent — led to the idea of translating this scale onto a flute.
A prototype was developed and used in two recordings, after which it remained unchanged for several years.
With the release of our C# bass flute, we returned to this earlier design and refined it into the instrument presented here.

Design, Material & Finish
Crafted from unstained maple wood, this flute reflects a reduced, material-focused approach.
The surface is finished with food-grade oils, allowing the natural grain to remain visible and to evolve over time. Rather than covering the material with stain, the finish preserves the quiet clarity and warmth of the maple itself.
Flute Block & Contemporary Design Language
This flute features our contemporary block / totem-style flute block, shaped with clear lines and defined edges.
The design follows a quieter visual language focused on proportion, function, and balance. Rather than imitating figurative or historical motifs, the form remains reduced and intentional — supporting the sound without competing with it.
Engraving Inspiration
The engraving follows a precise and restrained approach.
It draws inspiration from patterns emerging through vibration, resonance, and the movement of sound through matter. Geometric structures and flowing linear elements create a visual rhythm that reflects the tonal character of the instrument itself.
Subtle references to order within movement and resonance within form are woven into the design, allowing the engraving to function not simply as decoration, but as a quiet visual counterpart to the flute’s voice.
